It is Difficult, But I Can!

It was tiring. Full of packed schedule and sleepless nights doing requirements for school. It was disappointing for some things because they didn’t meet my expectations. It has been a circus ride of emotions but somehow it brought out the best in me.

I learned a lot about the stand of women in the society before
and how they are treated. I also had the chance to prove myself and to think logically and rationally during our debates in Araling Panlipunan. I also conquered my fear of singing in front of a crowd for our activity in Music and I got to prove to myself that I can dance but I’m not just good at it. Same through with the other subjects, I know that I had encountered a lot of difficulties along the way but it just takes time to get pass through them.

Moving on, I will apply all the things I had learned into real life situations and to use it for my benefit and of other’s. I will study hard and be better to reach my goals. I know it is difficult but I know I can!

Jesus is the Reason for this Season

“For God so loved the world that he gave us his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
-John 3: 16

Christmas is my favourite time of the year because you’ve got to spend time with your loved ones. It is the season of joy, peace, love and merry making. It is a special season to celebrate the birth of our saviour, Jesus Christ and the reason for this season!

Since I was a kid, I am always looking forward for the Christmas season because of food, gifts and a mini family reunion. I would always watch television while waiting for the clock to strike 12 and kiss my family a merry christmas. I would receive gifts from my titos, titas, lolo and lola and eat a delicious bowl of macaroni salad. It is my ideal Christmas eve but as I grow older, I came to realise that this season is not just all about gifts and food, it is more than that.

The essence of Christmas for me is remembering the birth of Jesus and feeling his love for us by sacrificing himself. When we ponder on his love for us, we should also be encouraged to share or to give love to other people and to embrace world peace. We should always be available to extend our helping hands to our brothers and sisters that are in need and to give comfort to the vulnerable ones. Christmas is a season of love and many reasons to live.

Have a Merry Christmas and always remember God’s love for us!

STOP!

I must say that men before have the dominance over women in almost everything and every way possible. It is a good thing that as the years passed, women finally had the courage to voice out and fight for their rights. That there should be equality between male and female, that women should not be belittled and that there would be no one who shall suffer under the hands of violence.

WHAT IS GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT (GAD)?
Gender and Development (GAD) – refers to the development perspective and process that is participatory and empowering, equitable, sustainable, free from violence, respectful of human rights, supportive of self-determination and actualization of human potentials. It seeks to achieve gender equality as a fundamental value that should be reflected in development choices and contends that women are active agents of development, not just passive recipients of development.

It is also known that women are the ones who are mostly abused in a household and the creation of a law protecting and giving rights to them is a blessing.

Republic Act No. 9262 is known as The Anti-Violence against Women and their Children
Act of 2004. Under the RA 9262, VAW refers to "any act or a series of acts committed by any person against a woman who is his wife, former wife, or against a woman with whom the person has or had a sexual or dating relationship, or with whom he has a common child, or against her child whether legitimate or illegitimate, within or without the family abode, which result in or is likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering, or economic abuse including threats of such acts, battery, assault, coercion, harassment, or arbitrary deprivation of liberty." Furthermore, RA 9262 gives women and their children the right to file a protection order.

Bring out equality! End VAW Now!

Save our Home

“The Earth will not continue to offer its harvest, except with faithful stewardship. We cannot say we love the land and then take steps to destroy it for use by future generations.”
—John Paul II

Did you know that November is the National Environmental Awareness Month and Clean Air Month? Local Government Units around the country have their own way to celebrate and to promote the protection of nature which is our source of living.
We cannot deny that nature provides everything we need to live but still we are abusing and taking advantage of it for our own benefit without thinking about the future generations. We are slowly destroying the beauty of God’s creation knowing that we should be stewards of it. If we continue these acts of inhumanity and evilness then it will be not long until the total destruction of the world that may lead to the extinction of mankind.
This year’s celebration has the theme “One Planet. One Nation: Sustaining Green Actions for a Safer Climate." It seeks to promote unity among us to help regain and bring back our environment many years ago. We could do simple things like avoiding the usage of plastics, proper segregation of trashes, planting of tress, conserving water and most especially practicing proper discipline and responsible actions.
We could still save our planet, we could still save our home!

Surely November is the month for many national celebrations! We are again embracing and anticipating the Children’s Month Celebration in our locality. This seeks to promote and to protect the rights of every Filipino children.
“Karapatang Pambata: Patuloy na Pahalagahan at Gampanan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan,” is this year’s National Children’s Month theme. This celebration was made to set out and realise their rights in terms of education, survival, development and protection. It also offers a vision that a child is an individual and he/she is also a part of the family and the community with rights and responsibilities appropriate to their age and stage of development.

This year’s celebration has the following objectives:

  1. Intensify public awareness on the rights of children and remind all sectors of the community and society to be responsible in raising-up the Filipino child to become a well-rounded person and to protect her/him at all cost, as enshrined in the UN CRC.

Filipino Core Values

“Ang gawa sa pagkabata, dala hanggang pagtanda.”

Filipino Values Month Celebration is celebrated in every schools across the country every month of November. It is in pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 479 dated October 7, 1994 entitled Declaring the Month of November of every year as Filipino Values Month.
This year’s celebration theme is “Pamilyang Pilipino Patatagin: Susi sa Paghubog ng Kabataang Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan, at Makabansa” that aims to emphasize the very important role of the family in building every young individual’s values, strengthening them to be better citizens of the country and preparing them for the future that is ahead of them. The early stage in the life of a person I must say is one of the most crucial part in learning because they might take the wrong path without proper guidance from people around them. We all know that the foundation of every student is important and it has a great influence on how they act and socialize with other people, therefore, every family should practice and apply the Filipino Core values in their lives.

In our school, we celebrated the Filipino Values Month through many school activities and contests that were participated by the different grade level students.

May we always carry out the lessons we have learned from our families and teachers. Your values is all that matters.

Embracing Cultures through United Nations

The time has come again for the United Nations Month Celebration which is an annual month-long series of events held throughout October to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the UN charter. It was officially established on October 24, 1945. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Indigenous Languages Matter for Sustainable Development, Peace Building and Reconciliation”

United Nations is celebrated yearly to give honor for the work they have done to spread and promote peace among countries and for their different achievements. In the Philippines, schoolchildren wear national costumes to showcase the beautiful tradition and culture of countries around the world. UN Month Celebration is also important in our school, the Social Studies Club surely has a lot of preparations in order to make the students enjoy and be thrilled. They had conducted essay writing contest, poster making and the UN quiz to test the knowledge of the students regarding its history up to the present informations about this organization. Of course it wouldn’t be exciting without the much-awaited Mr. and Ms. UN that would be participated by the different students of each grade level. This was said to be the grandest pageant in our school and I must agree.

It is a must to celebrate and commemorate the founding of the United Nations. This organization has a lot of contributions in helping countries economically, politically and it also promotes peace and unity among the member nations. Happy UN Month Celebration!

My Learning Process

"Aim for the sky, but more slowly, enjoying every step along the way. It is all those little steps that make the journey complete."
-Chanda Kochhar

Learning and succeeding was never easy. You had to go through a lot of problems and challenges and sometimes it requires us to move a mountain in order to harvest the fruits of our labor. It was again a stressful quarter for us students because of the many school activities and requirements we need to pass.

I surely had fun creating blogs and learning how to use the HTML tags. I was really thrilled and overjoyed for all of the new lessons our teachers have taught us. I may have encountered some difficulties along the way to my second finish line but I managed to get pass through them by my strong determination to overcome them.

Moving on, I will again do my best and push myself to the best of my ability so that I will live life with no regrets. I will enjoy every step and endure all the bruises I can get along the way.

The Hope of the Future Generations

“A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.”
-Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

My teacher, my hero. School is our second home and teachers are our second parents. How beautiful can your love be when all you want is what’s best for them? Our teachers deeply care for us that they devoted and give most of their time to prepare us for our bright future. They are truly angels in disguise brought here to guide and mold us into a good and better person in the making.

We may not always show our gratitude and love for them but deep inside our heart, we are very thankful for all of their sacrifices and effort to teach us. Without teachers, there would be no professionals, so it is just right to give credits to them for all of the success in the world. They deserve all the happiness the world could give and may God always shower them with many blessings. In their hands lie the hope of the future generations and may the students always carry out respect and love for their teachers.

As we celebrate the World Teacher’s Day, all praise and thanks to all of our heroes around the Earth! Happy Teacher’s Day and We love you all!

Intramurals 2K19

Every student is always looking forward to their Intramurals which is one of the best highlight of our high school days for it gives us time to be with our friends and bond with our classmates. Feelings of excitement and joy can be seen on their faces as the event came to start and the ball starts rolling.

Cheers and laughter can be heard as the activities prepared by the school started. Exciting booths were put up by the different clubs and organizations that brought joy to everyone in the school. The friendly games and competitions really helped in building the athletes’ teamwork and lifting their self confidence. Also, it was the perfect time to showcase their talents and skills and to give them recognition for representing our school on different sports competitions.

As a CAT officer, we helped in facilitating the peace and order of our school and assisted on the different games to be played. We encountered students that will surely give you a headache and we were placed under the raging heat of the sun. It was indeed tiring and stressful but overall, it was filled with fun and contentment because we had served the school once again.

It’s More Fun to Learn with HSM

“What makes a child gifted and talented may not always be good grades in school, but a different way of looking at the world and learning.”
-Chuck Grassley

Some students doesn’t enjoy learning and the thought of going to school bothers them maybe because of an unwanted experience or they are scared for unknown reasons. School must be a place where children can learn and at the same time have fun and they should remember it as something they’ve enjoyed going to for many years. Luckily, the Happy Schools Movement was implemented.
Students deserved to be loved and taken care with so that they could concentrate and live whatever lessons and teachings they had in school. Happy Schools Movement advocates to promote that every learning facilities in the country should be a better and enjoyable place to discover new things.
According to an article that I have read, a positive school environment can help decrease absenteeism, suspensions and bullying. It can also increases the child’s educational achievement and they will also have a motivation to learn and improve their well-being. This movement that they have implemented can help learners fully say and express themselves and what they really want to tell. With the help of the teachers and school administrators, they could mold students like us into happy learners which is the main goal of this movement.

Learning is not just all about books and gaining knowledge, but it is also about having fun and creating happy memories.

My First Journey

Another school year has started and students are excited to gain new information and knowledge that they could use. It was a roller coaster of both fun and mixed emotions during the first quarter. I had enjoyed learning and was very interested on the different topics our teacher prepared for us.

We had our own time in reporting and it molded us to be more confident on speaking especially in front of a crowd.  I learned a lot about the Internet, how it was made, and how it started. The Internet was indeed a very important invention for it contributes a lot in our society today. Creating a blog is probably the lesson I have enjoyed the most. It brought out my talent on writing and creating layout for my blog. The only problem I had encountered was the hard time memorizing the dates in regards to the History of Internet. In order for me to overcome the challenges that I had faced, I made a way to easily remember the dates and information needed and took it all lightly.

Moving on, I will apply all the things I had learned into real life situations and to use it for my benefit and of other’s. It was indeed a stressful start for us because we are still adjusting but it was fun and we gained a lot of knowledge from our lessons.

Filipinos are Resilient

It is always better to be prepared and knowledgeable in everything to overcome challenges we might face. Disasters can be human induced or naturally occurring, therefore, we should know the safety precautionary measures and what to do during and after disasters to avoid possible damages. This year’s Disaster Resilience Month Celebration has the theme “Kahandaan sa sakuna’t peligro para sa tunay na pagbabago.”
Filipinos should be resilient in every life threatening situations that could bring them harm and danger. When things happen beyond our control, we must learn how to cope up and quickly think of a solution for our problem. Being ready is always better than being sorry. It is important to know what steps or actions are you going to do if there are disasters. In your homes, you should always have an emergency survival kit which contains different things or necessities that you needed the most. Saving local emergency hotlines is also a must and we should listen and follow the plan our local government created in case of serious situations. It is also important to remind yourself not to panic so you could think of a better way to survive and save others.
We are lucky that we are annually raising awareness of what we should do in times of disasters through the Disaster Resilience Month Celebration. Having little knowledge is much better than knowing nothing at all.

Healthy Self, Healthy Life

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Eating healthy foods and living a proper and just lifestyle will prevent us from acquiring different illness or diseases that if severe, may cause death.  For this year’s Nutrition Month Celebration which is held annually has the theme “Kumain ng Wasto at maging aktibo… Push natin ‘to!”
I must say that health is one of the most important thing a person should look out to in his life. Being healthy will give us a positive outlook about living our lives to the fullest. We should always be mindful for every food that we eat because some can bring us harm and might be dangerous for us. Exercising or doing activities is also beneficial to burn the energies that you had consumed to prevent gaining of excess fats which is unhealthy. Our school, Ilocos Sur National High School prepared many activities through the whole duration of July for the celebration of this year’s Nutrition Month. One is the Nutri Jingle competition which is the most exciting activity the assigned club has prepared because all of the clubs will participate in this said event.
Always remember that we only live once so we should take care of ourselves to enjoy the beauty of the world created by our father. Health is our wealth and in order to live healthy, be healthy.

I Am Ready

The Philippines is along the Pacific Ring of Fire which means that we frequently experience trembling of the ground. Because of this, our government decided to conduct a National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill to all schools that would help us know what to do in times of disasters like this.
This program of our government is of great use to us, especially because we had been experiencing frequent shaking of the Earth’s crust. Many of us doesn’t know the safety precautionary measures and what to do when it is already happening so it will help us a lot. The program they implemented were for our safety and it would benefit us, but why are there still some who are taking it as a joke and for fun? It is for us so we should take it seriously and participate well.
Many students or people are unaware of the “Big One” that might happen anytime and it is believed to be a strong and destructive earthquake that will soon hit a big part of Luzon. This, maybe is the reason why we are conducting the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill that would prepare us for the coming of this strong trembling of the ground.
It is best to be aware and to know what to do in times of calamities to save ourselves and the people around us. We are very lucky that our government is always there to ensure the safety and betterment of the countrymen. Remember, it is always better to be ready and safe than sorry.

Freedom of our Comfort Zone

For this year’s celebration of Independence day, we should give honor and remember all of the heroes who fought and sacrificed their lives just to set our country free. Back in time, this is exactly the day when the Philippine flag was raised and the freedom of every Filipino against the invaders was declared. But why are there some people who doesn’t give importance to this part of our history?

Some Filipinos from the new generation doesn’t really care about the real meaning of why we are celebrating. Rather than being grateful for our heroes, they make jokes and other funny memes to have something to upload on their social media accounts instead. I think we need to assess ourselves and to be serious sometimes because there are some matters that should not be taken as a joke. We should show them our respect because we owe them big, without these acts of courageousness maybe we are still on the hands of foreign colonizers. Therefore, we should share or express our gratitude for them through the internet or in any other ways, saying you are proud to be a Filipino and is brave enough to fight for your home.

We should always remember them and all of the heroic acts they have done to fight for our rights. I thank our heroes for being brave and selfless. They save us because of their love for our country—our comfort zone, and I think that was beautiful!

Selenophile

Hi! Liam Yvon T. Cabello is my full name. I'm 16 years old and currently in 10th grade. I love to read books because it widens my imagination and view of life. I am bubbly and talkative when I am with people I'm close with. I talk about how the moon and stars shine brightly over the beautiful night sky and how they catch my breath just by looking at them. I love poems and how the authors express their thoughts into something aesthetic. I love the smell of the rain and old books for it brings memories. I look on the bright side of everything and I believe that everyone has a goodness in them. Pink and food is my heaven and my bed is where I can find comfort.
