The good and bad side of ICT

ICT stands for "Information and Communication Technologies." ICT refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunications. It is similar to Information Technology (IT) but focuses primarily on communication technologies. This includes the Internet, wireless networks, cell phones, and other communication mediums.

ICT is leveraged for economic, societal, and interpersonal transactions and interactions. ICT has drastically changed how people work, communicate, learn, and live. Because of this, people can communicate in real-time with others in different countries using technologies such as instant messaging, voice over IP (VoIP), and videoconferencing. Social networking websites like Facebook allow users from all over the world to remain in contact and communicate on a regular basis. Moreover, ICT continues to revolutionize all parts of the human experience as first computers and now robots do many of the tasks once handled by humans.

But ICT has also created problems and challenges to organizations and individuals alike -- as well as to society. The digitization of data, the expanding use of high-speed internet and the growing global network together have led to new levels of crime, where so-called bad actors can hatch electronically enabled schemes or illegally gain access to systems to steal money, intellectual property, or private information or to disrupt systems that control critical infrastructure. ICT has also brought automation and robots that displace workers who are unable to transfer their skills to new positions. And ICT has allowed more and more people to limit their interactions with others, creating what some people fear is a population that could lose some of what makes it human.

Moments turned to Memories

“The moment may be temporary, but the memory is forever.” It felt like it was just yesterday when my first day in high school started. Coming from a private school, it was hard for me to adjust and to make friends but I gained a lot as days passed by. I’ve always wished for the time to go faster but now, I would love to turn and go back in time.

I can still remember the different competitions we’ve all been through and the countless hardships that were well paid off. The games we used to play when our teachers are not around, the fights we had and the ghost stories we shared during afternoon shifts. I also enjoyed dancing and singing to K-Pop songs with my friends and eating mango every lunch breaks.

Lessons are getting harder and passing of requirements all at once but we are still enjoying it and thankfully, we survived it all together. I will also never forget our CO and CAT moments and trainings under the raging heat of the sun, the holding back of laughter every time we were on ‘attention’ and something funny happens, cleaning the school campus, and duties during special events.

I will miss camping with my MaxConi Fam. Camping is one of the best highlight of my high school memories because of the time spent with friends and the knowledge we can get from this activity. I had fun with all the amazing races and activities prepared by the organization and the late night talks with my camp mates. I will always enjoy and miss our high school day because of the practices and bonding moments with my classmates and the most awaited field demonstration. I will also never forget the leadership trainings, seminars, contests, and RYLA 2018 where we met new friends and enhanced our skills in leading and guiding our fellow schoolmates.

High school made me feel that cliché butterflies in your stomach, stress, extreme happiness and sadness. It made me experience love, rejection, crying over requirements and sleeping late at night to study my lessons. It may be stressful and hard sometimes but surely you will miss these moments you had when you grow up. The laughter, smiles and tears spent with my classmates and friends will always be cherished. We will soon leave our classroom with the happy moments we had but I will always remember it because I have it in my heart and how I would always love to go back to the start.

Ps
To my MaxConi Fam,

We may have countless of misunderstandings in the past and personal issues, we know deep in our hearts that we got each other’s backs. We were like brothers and sisters, we may fight but our love for each other is stronger. I will surely miss you all. I will surely miss all the bonds and games with you and it’s so painful to think that one day, I’ll go into a room with unfamiliar faces in it, without the family I used to be with for 4 years. I love you all and I wish you the best in life! May we be successful together.

Long we reign, Marconi!
All is well, Maxwell!

A Dream to be Told

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.”
-T.E. Lawrence

When I was a child, all I want is to be rich so I could give my parents and my family a happy and comfortable life. I wanted to own a beautiful and big mansion just like a royalty’s, I wanted to own many cars and trendy outfits, and I wanted to travel around the world with my family. But as I grew older, I’ve come to realise that there is more to life than just riches and material happiness.

I have always dreamed of becoming a CPA Lawyer and work in a good company so that I could save for myself and for my future family. I want to make my parents and the people around me proud for who I am and for my great success in life. I want to see their satisfied and genuine smile every time they see me and my achievements, because after all, they are for them. I have also always dreamed of having a healthy family both physically and mentally, away from sickness or diseases. I also want to experience true and genuine happiness.

I have so many goals and dreams for my future that sometimes it seems so impossible to reach them but as what they always say, “If you want something, you’ll work for it.” For the mean time, I will study hard and trust God’s perfect timing for the things he planned for me. I will wait patiently and at the same time, strive harder to achieve my beautiful dreams.

118th High School Day Celebration

Come and join us as we celebrate our fun filled 118th High School Day Celebration!

Every school celebrates their Foundation Day annually to give honor to their school’s foundation and beautiful history. Our school was established in 1902 as Ilocano Normal School through Act No. 372 of the Philippine Commission. It was later called Vigan High School and then Ilocos Sur National High School as it was known today.

Due to some unwanted circumstances, our High School day celebration was postponed on the last week of March. Nonetheless, students were still very excited to showcase their talents through a field demonstration. The gymnasium and the athletic field is always filled with students from different grade levels who are practicing their unique choreographies. The Royal Court is also preparing for the Coronation Day and CAT officers are now conducting their training for the Arrivals.

I really wanted to enjoy this last High School Day Celebration with my MaxConi family and to make the best out of it. I am hoping that it will be filled with fun memories I will always treasure.

Kannawidan ti Ilocos

I grew up very excited about the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival every last week of January to first week of February because of the different exciting activities and shows they have for us to enjoy. Before, I never knew what Kannawidan is for but as time pass by I have learned that it is a celebration in which the Ilocos province was divided into two- Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. The province was divided because they cannot already handle the rising number of revolts during the Spanish Colonial Period.

Ilocos Sur is a beautiful province located in the northern part of Luzon. It is a province rich in traditions and culture that represents a mixture of Filipino and Spanish Heritage. In celebrating the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival, we were able to show and share our treasures to the people and to the whole world.

Kannawidan means “nakasanayan” or “nakagawian”. Through
this festival, the younger generation may appreciate their rich culture and traditions that is slowly becoming unknown to them because they are paying more attention to the modern things they see on the television or on the internet. Different fun activities and traditional shows were prepared that will surely make you in awe. Local foods and delicacies were also available in the place of event as well as beautiful products made by the Ilocanos.

We should always treasure and keep our culture and traditions alive because it is our rich heritage and identity. Love and be proud of where you came from! Sure, Ilocos Sur!

Change for the Better

“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.“
-C. JoyBell C.

Truly, change is inevitable. The weather changes, feelings change, your favourite hobby changes, and people change which really means that everything changes.

I am no saint. I’m not perfect. I have flaws and bad traits, but I’m trying to become better. I have a bad temper and sometimes, everything makes me mad. I also get hurt and cry at the smallest things. I get discouraged easily and I overthink everything that is happening. I feel bad about myself and I wanted to become a better version of me. Starting today, I will change my daily lifestyle and I will concentrate on being positive, happy and contented. I will seek guidance from the Lord through prayers and practice gratitude.

I believe that if you want something, then you will try your hardest to achieve or get it same as through when you really want to change and improve yourself.

Viva Vigan Fiesta!

I wandered happily on the streets of the city proper and I could see the excitement on the faces of the people. The city is decorated with beautiful and colourful ’banderitas’ just right in time for the Vigan City Fiesta. Many tourists came to visit our town and to joyfully celebrate with us.

The Vigan City Fiesta is held every 25th of January which is the celebration of the conversion of St. Paul the Apostle, Vigan City’s patron saint and it lasts for several days. It includes within the period the celebration of the anniversary of the cityhood of Vigan. As a part of the tradition, Bigueños return to their hometown to join their families in celebrating their town fiesta. Tourists also visit our town to join the celebration and enjoy the different parades, cultural shows, street dancing performances and visiting the carnival prepared by the local government and people in the community.

Our home is truly amazing and there is just so much exciting things to do and watch. I honestly anticipate our fiesta and I look forward to it every year. Viva Vigan City Fiesta!

2020: A Year for Self Improvement

Time flies so fast that 2019 seems like a whirlwind. I have experienced too many emotional breakdowns and my patience was put to test. The path I walked in last 2019 was rocky and steep that I feel like falling and I would never reach my destination, but here I am, still fighting to survive and to continue living to have the future I’ve always dreamt of.

As the clock struck 12, I happily welcomed 2020 with a smile on my face and a positive thought that this year would be a time for healing, self love, happiness and contentment. I’m looking forward to what 2020 will bring and I am hoping that this year would be better than the last years.

For this year, I will concentrate on my mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. I am going to remind myself that I will try and do things so I will live life with no regrets. I won’t forget to love myself and to know my worth. I will do my best to change my not-so-pleasing traits and I will do something ahout my patience and temper. I can’t wait to become better and I am hoping that 2020 will bring positive vibes and healing to everyone.

How about you, what were your thoughts about the new year?

It is Difficult, But I Can!

It was tiring. Full of packed schedule and sleepless nights doing requirements for school. It was disappointing for some things because they didn’t meet my expectations. It has been a circus ride of emotions but somehow it brought out the best in me.

I learned a lot about the stand of women in the society before
and how they are treated. I also had the chance to prove myself and to think logically and rationally during our debates in Araling Panlipunan. I also conquered my fear of singing in front of a crowd for our activity in Music and I got to prove to myself that I can dance but I’m not just good at it. Same through with the other subjects, I know that I had encountered a lot of difficulties along the way but it just takes time to get pass through them.

Moving on, I will apply all the things I had learned into real life situations and to use it for my benefit and of other’s. I will study hard and be better to reach my goals. I know it is difficult but I know I can!

Jesus is the Reason for this Season

“For God so loved the world that he gave us his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
-John 3: 16

Christmas is my favourite time of the year because you’ve got to spend time with your loved ones. It is the season of joy, peace, love and merry making. It is a special season to celebrate the birth of our saviour, Jesus Christ and the reason for this season!

Since I was a kid, I am always looking forward for the Christmas season because of food, gifts and a mini family reunion. I would always watch television while waiting for the clock to strike 12 and kiss my family a merry christmas. I would receive gifts from my titos, titas, lolo and lola and eat a delicious bowl of macaroni salad. It is my ideal Christmas eve but as I grow older, I came to realise that this season is not just all about gifts and food, it is more than that.

The essence of Christmas for me is remembering the birth of Jesus and feeling his love for us by sacrificing himself. When we ponder on his love for us, we should also be encouraged to share or to give love to other people and to embrace world peace. We should always be available to extend our helping hands to our brothers and sisters that are in need and to give comfort to the vulnerable ones. Christmas is a season of love and many reasons to live.

Have a Merry Christmas and always remember God’s love for us!

STOP!

I must say that men before have the dominance over women in almost everything and every way possible. It is a good thing that as the years passed, women finally had the courage to voice out and fight for their rights. That there should be equality between male and female, that women should not be belittled and that there would be no one who shall suffer under the hands of violence.

WHAT IS GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT (GAD)?
Gender and Development (GAD) – refers to the development perspective and process that is participatory and empowering, equitable, sustainable, free from violence, respectful of human rights, supportive of self-determination and actualization of human potentials. It seeks to achieve gender equality as a fundamental value that should be reflected in development choices and contends that women are active agents of development, not just passive recipients of development.

It is also known that women are the ones who are mostly abused in a household and the creation of a law protecting and giving rights to them is a blessing.

Republic Act No. 9262 is known as The Anti-Violence against Women and their Children
Act of 2004. Under the RA 9262, VAW refers to "any act or a series of acts committed by any person against a woman who is his wife, former wife, or against a woman with whom the person has or had a sexual or dating relationship, or with whom he has a common child, or against her child whether legitimate or illegitimate, within or without the family abode, which result in or is likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering, or economic abuse including threats of such acts, battery, assault, coercion, harassment, or arbitrary deprivation of liberty." Furthermore, RA 9262 gives women and their children the right to file a protection order.

Bring out equality! End VAW Now!
